Assist Business and Insurance Services Inc.

Carla M. McClain, Broker/Agent

E-mail: abisi-carla@live.com

Carla originally became a licensed Life/Health Agent in 1991. Shortly thereafter she accepted a position with the County of Kern, and during the next 12 years worked part-time as an agent prospecting and servicing clients of Kern Island Insurance Services, Inc. Carla retired from the County in 2005, and attended CA State University Bakersfield, graduating in November 2008, with a degree in Psychology. Fortuitous was that on the list of careers for a Psychology degree was the position of “Life and Health Insurance Agent”, and so she continued working as an agent.

By August 2010, Carla started her own sole proprietor agency, Assist Business and Insurance Services; within three years the need to incorporate became clear, and so ABIS Inc., or ABISI, was started in April 2013. In 2015, ABISI partnered with another broker to perform dual work on certain cases. As a result, ABISI expanded its portfolio to include supplemental benefits with Colonial Life, which turned out to be a timely decision. Since the advent of healthcare reform, consumers have come to rely more and more on supplemental products to help control costs, and provide additional security to insureds.

Most recently ABISI became a CA Certified Small Business, and is in the process of becoming a Certified Woman Owned Business. On the horizon is making an application for certification as a Federal Vendor which will allow bidding on public sector entity RFPs. We currently have a staff of three, and are work in tandem with the Colonial Life team of agents to install group supplemental benefits as needed. As President, Carla is deeply gratified to be working with what she feels is the best overall team around, and she hopes for continued success for ABISI, and all involved business partners.
